Reykjavik Bars and Clubs

Given the compact size of downtown Reykjavik, or Reykjavik 101, bar-hopping and club-stumbling, collectively known as the runtur or "round tour" to locals (hitting all the best nightlife spots in Reykjavik) is relatively easy. But with stiff cocktail prices, most local Reykjavikians pre-party at private homes before frequenting the electric and thoroughly modern bar and club scene in the later hours (midnight being the hour of choice) while summer's long, sunlit hours keep the Reykjavik revelry going deceptively late. But when the party-goers do arrive, most Reykjavik bars and clubs are filled with well-dressed, well-heeled patrons (over 20 years old, and in most places, 23 is the average entry age--unless of course one is a beautiful girl) and it is the rare Reykjavik club where jeans and sneakers are the norm, while dressing to impress most certainly is.
